A big thanks to Catherine and Varsha for winning the tickets to the screening of the "mystery movie". It was so exclusive that we didn't know what movie it was going to be until it actually started. There was even a speech before the movie! How epic is that!?
Last night, myself along with some of my friends were among a lucky few be a part of the 'FIRST IN THE WORLD' screening of the upcoming movie, Star Trek.
Now, I'll be completely honest and say that I have never in my life watched an episode of Star Trek. It had always been one of those shows on Tv that just looked so silly, especially with the cheap-looking animation and the cast that well.. isn't really on the youthful side. I actually entered the cinema hoping for the new 'X-Men' to be screened. So you know that this review is based from the point of a non-Star Trek fan who felt slightly let down when he found out that he had to sit through 2 hours of Star Trek.On to the review! After the first few minutes of the movie, I was honestly very excited to find out what happens next and the way they played out the story was cool as well. They didn't leave a non-Star Trek fan like me stranded there guessing who is this guy or who is that guy and how did he end up there and all that.
Animation-wise, it was amazing. Very different from the 'toy-like' spaceships that you see on the Tv show. What you get here is full-fledged, high definition CGI animation. So yeah, what you get is a very realistic picture. There were even funny moments so it wasn't just flat serious all the way like one might expect from a show that mostly involves flying around in the vastness of space.
However, the thing that really captured me about the movie was the fact that it managed to sell itself to non-Star Trek fans! Never would I thought that I'd actually say I'd enjoy a Star Trek film. I'd bet there are some people walking out of that cinema and heading home to google up Star Trek's history and all (not me by the way. haha). A die-hard Star Trek fan might feel otherwise though. Anyway, I think this movie is deserved of the rating.Movie rating:
3 and a half out of 5
